The Donostia chess festival continues with a lot of fighting chess and interesting games. With an average rating of 2682, the San Sebastian main event is a category 18 tournament, one of the strongest for the year in Spain.

Donostia Chess Festival, consisting of four round-robin tournament, launched today in San Sebastián and continues until 16th July. The youngest participants in the main San Sebastián European Cultural City 2016 Tournament, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Hikaru Nakamura, have started the campaign with wins against Rustam Kasimdzhanov and Anatoly Karpov respectively. The third winner was local favourite Francisco Vallejo Pons who beat the unpredictable Julio Grand Zuniga.
