GM Konstantin Landa, GM Marcin Dziuba, GM Boris Chatalbashev, GM Anton Kovalyov and reigning World Senior Chess Champion GM Miso Cebalo, shared the second place with 6.5 points each.

First Serbian League for Women 2010 is being held from 23rd August to 2nd September in Novi Sad. 12 teams compete in the round robin tournament. Top rated players are GM Dzagnidze Nana, IM Bojkovic Natasa, IM Vasilevich Tatjana, WGM Rudolf Anna, IM Foisor Cristina-Adela, WGM Stojanovic Andjelija and WGM Voiska Margarita.

6th Prospero A. Pichay Jr. Cup

The 6th Prospero A. Pichay Jr. Cup has started in Manila, Philippines, a precursor to the Florencio Campomanes Memorial later this weekend. GM Murtas Kazghaleyev of Kazakhstan leads the field of 47 players, among which are 9 Grandmasters and 11 International Masters. The separate “Challenge” Group has additional 75 players rated under 2200 FIDE.

The defending champion Sveti Nikolaj from Valjevo, who arrived to the competition without reserve players, started off with a minimal but valuable victory against the ambitious Vodovod from Kragujevac. The executor was GM Ivan Sokolov, candidate for the post of ECU Vice-President, who defeated GM Andrei Volokitin with black pieces, while the remaining five games ended in tie.

Festival Paulista de Xadrez 2010, consisting of two round-robin tournaments, was held from 9th to 22nd August in Santos, Brazil. Sandro Mareco from Argentina, who became Grandmaster at the FIDE Presidential Board meeting during the Anand – Topalov match, outclassed the opposition and claimed the first place with 7.0 points, full two points ahead of the rest of the field.

GM Suat Atalik was unstoppable, scored seven victories and conceded only two draws, for a total of impressive 8.0 points from nine games in such a strong field with more than 30 Grandmasters. In the last round he defeated the top-seeded GM Denis Khismatullin with black pieces.
