GM Cao Sang victorious in Malaysian Open

Grandmaster Cao Sang of Vietnam emerges winner on tie break after nine grueling rounds in 7th IGB Dato’ Arthur Tan Malaysia Open 2010 in Kuala Lumpur. Cao Sang, GM Zhou Weiqi of China and IM S.P.Sethuraman have all scored 7 points but finally Cao Sang was declared winner on Bucholz tiebreak.

In the afternoon the first round started with a number of surprises. In the men’s tournament, the six top seeds only scored fifty percent. On board one the heavy favourite Wang Yue (China) won convincingly with the Black pieces, but on board two the silver medallist of 2008, Igor Lysyj (Russia), fared less well.

The first stage of the Shanghai Bilbao Final Chess Masters is taking place on 3-8th September at the Shanghai International Expo, Spanish Pavilion. Levon Aronian, Vladimir Kramnik, Alexei Shirov and 2010 China champion Wang Hao compete in a double round robin tournament for two spots in the Bilbao event.

Vodovod’s dreams were dispersed after Smederevo quickly grabbed a decisive 3.5-0.5 lead. One of the top scorers on the second board, GM Mihajlo Stojanovic, was defeated after five consecutive wins, and the best player of the entire league, Smederevo captain GM Danilo Milanovic, added another victory for a total of 9.5 points from 11 rounds.
