On the second day of the Team Championship for Men and Women in the 16th Asian Games being held at the Guangzhou Chess Institute, China, India, Vietnam and Kazakhstan are in the front with full 4 points in the Men’s section and three teams are on 4 points in the women section.

The Team Championship for Men and Women of the 16th Asian Games commenced today at the Guangzhou Chess Institute, China. The Championship will be held in two phases. Phase one Preliminaries will be seven round Swiss to determine the four qualifiers for the semifinals.

Rustam Kasimdzhanov of Uzbekistan in men and Hou Yifan of China in the women section won the Rapid Championship of the 16th Asian Games which concluded today at the Guangzhou Chess Institute, China.

Sixth round saw some dramatic action off the Board as two players, both from Mongolia, WGM Bathimeg Tuvshingtus & FM Battulga Namkhai reported 5 seconds late to the Board and lost their games to IM Tania Sachdev of India GM Marodiabadi Elshan of Iran respectively.

The manifestation is organized for the occasion of the candidacy of the city of Rijeka for organization of the Mediterranean Games in 2017, under the motto “Chess with the scent of the sea”, and with the idea to promote companionship and cooperation of chess players and chess federations of the Mediterranean countries.

At the end of day two and four rounds, in the 16th Asian Games being held at the Guangzhou Chess Institute, top seed GM le Quang Liem of Vietnam wrested the sole lead with a perfect score of 4/4 in the Men section and two Chinese lead in the women section with four points each.

The top seeded players successfully passed the first round without allowing major upsets, except that GM Vladislav Nevednichy, arriving directly from the Bora Kostic Memorial, lost against Croatian FM Julian Plenca.

At the end of day one, in the 16th Asian Games which commenced at the Guangzhou Chess Institute, saw 46 Men and 36 women from 24 countries fighting for honours in the Individual Rapid category to be played on nine Round Swiss system. The competition, which restricts two entries per country, has attracted twenty GMs in the Men Section.
