FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Doha

Elina Danielian is storming through the final FIDE Women Grand Prix in Qatar, having achieved fifth consecutive victory, this time against the former World Champion Xu Yuhua. Elina is leading with the perfect score, full two points ahead of IM Martha Fierro, GM Pia Cramling and GM Marie Sebag.

The 11th WGM tournament “Mediterranean flower 2011″ will be held in Rijeka from 26th February to 5th March 2011. As usual, it will be closed round robin tournament with 10 players. Accommodation is in hotel “Adriatic” in the famous tourist resort of Opatija. The playing hall is in the beautiful “House of Chess Rijeka” in the town Rijeka.

After the second round of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Doha, Nana Dzagnidze and Elina Danielian are leading with the perfect score after edging Munguntuul Batkhuyag and Maia Chiburdanidze respectively. Meanwhile, Marie Sebag created the strong attack on her opponent’s king and won an impressive game against Xu Yuhua.

On the last day Quparadze drew GM Sergei Tiviakov and Volkov lost with White to GM Alexei Fedorov of Belarus. Thus Quparadze and Fedorov shared the first place with 7 points each, but the Belorussian was declared winner on better second tiebreak criteria. Quparadze has had an impressive tournament, scoring a Grandmaster norm with the performance equal to 2700 elo.

The Women Championship with 35 participants was played over 9 rounds of Swiss system. WGM Cristina-Adela Foisor and WIM Irina Bulmaga both won their last round games to share the first place with 7.5 points each. However, Foisor was declared champion on better additional criteria.

After five starting victories in the Cento Carnival Open, GM Alberto David makes a first draw against the top seeded GM Alexey Dreev. Since the second table match Aleksander Delchev – Elina Danielan also produced a draw, albeit only after a long contested endgame, GM David remains the sole leader with 5.5 points.

The Caro-Kann fared very well today, as Grandmasters Alexey Dreev and Elina Danielan used it as Black to win their games. They are joined in the lead by GM Oleg Romanishin, with another trademarked Catalan victory, GM Ivan Sokolov, GM Alberto David, IM Federico Manca, who beat GM Roland Salvador in a wild game, Guido Caprio and GM Manuel Leon Hoyos.

The International Open continued with the round two games. The top rated Grandmasters continued the winning row against the lower rated opposition, however there were a few surprising results by the Italian juniors. The 16-years old Guido Caprio shocked GM Sabino Brunello with black pieces, while the 14-years old Federico Boscolo defeated IM Kenny Solomon.

Turkish Youth Chess Championships 2011

The record number of 1002 players (from 51 provinces) took part in the first branch of the championship in U7-U12 age categories. 121 participants were selected for the national teams and will get the support from the TCF.
