GM Igor Kurnosov won the Arctic Chess Challenge 2008 with half a point ahead of strong participants. After leading by a full point in round 8, GM Igor Kurnosov secured the first position by drawing GM Matthew Turner. GM Kurnosov finished with 7,5/9, 7 victories and 3 draws. Especially valuable were the victories against GM Kasparov in round 7 and GM Agdestein in round 8.

Second place was shared by GM Agdestein, GM Turner, and GM Kunin. GM Agdestein was with the best tiebreak score and took the silver.

As usual, Arctic Chess Challenge was nice tournament for gaining rating. Peter S Poobalasingam and Lasse Østebø Løvik performed much above their level and gained 30+ELO points. Even Thingstad made the biggest jump of the competition with 41 points gain. WIM Tatiana Kasparova, Jon Kristian Haarr, Espen Haugstad, and Benjamin Arvola had good performance as well.

Magnus Carlsen visited the playing hall during the last days of the competition. There was his whole family playing and Magnus joined them for the final rounds. Henrik Carlsen finished on the prestigious 26th position adding 18 ELO to his rating. Ellen Øen Carlsen and Ingrid Øen Carlsen had good performance as well.
