China Men and Women teams storm into the finals

China Men and Women teams storm into the finals of the 16th Asian Games Team Chess Championship which is being held at the Guangzhou Chess Institute, in Guangzhou, China. China will take on Philippines in the men and Uzbekistan in the women sections in the finals to be held tomorrow. For the Bronze medal matches India will play Iran in the men section and Vietnam in the women section.

In today’s semifinal matches, Chinese women defeated Vietnam 3.5-0.5, the only board to end in a draw was between WGM Ju Wenjun and WIM Pham Le Thao Nguyen. Hou Yifan, Zhao and Huang Qian won their games.

Uzbekistan beat India 2.5-1.5. with Harika Dronavalli winning the top board battle against Muminova Nafisa and Tania Sachdev drawing her game. Uzbekistan’s victory came through Hamrakulova Yulduz and Nodirjanova Nodira who scored full points.

The Chinese men beat Iran 2.5-1.5 with Wang Hao winning his game against Mahjooob Morteza and all the other boards ending in draws.

In the other Semifinal, Philippines beat India 2.5-1.5. despite their star player Wesley So losing to Harikrishna on the top board. While Krishnan Sasikiran and G.N.Gopal lost to Antonio Rogelio Jr and Torre Eugenio, Gomez John Paul drew with Ganguly Surya Shekhar.
