Shirov and Ivanchuk off to a good start at Bazna Kings

the strongest event ever to be held in Romania

The third Bazna Kings Tournament, dubbed as the strongest event ever to be held in Romania, is taking place on 14-25th June in Bucharest and Bazna. Alexei Shirov and Vassily Ivanchuk, who both had ups and downs in the recent months, are off to a flying start by winning their games with black pieces against Gata Kamsky and Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu respectively.

Shirov needed only one day break to recover after the disastrous performance at the 10th Karpov Poikovsky and shine in the first round here in Romania. Ivanchuk has been in poor shape at Mtel Masters, won by Alexei Shirov, but then he won a rapid match against David Navara and reached a final in another rapid event in Leon.
