18 years old topped several strong Grandmasters
The young IM André Diamant is the new Brasilian chess champion. He played a brilliant tournament, grabbed 8 out of 11 possible points and finished half a point ahead of GMs Giovanni Vescovi and Alexandr Fier.
The Championship ended this Tuesday in the city of Porto Alegre and Diamant also earned his second GM norm. He is 18 years old and started the tourney with a 2412 rating. In the last round he drew the 2007 champion GM Vescovi to finish alone on the top.
