GM Leitão and IM Diamant leading at Brasilian Chess Championship

Porto Alegre, 7-16th December

After seven rounds (of 11) have been played, the Brasilian Chess Championship is still completely open. GM Rafael Leitão and IM André Diamant lead with 5.5 points, followed by GMs Gilberto Milos and Alexander Fier, with 5.0.

The highest rated player, GM Giovanni Vescovi (2635, equaling GM Henrique Mecking’s best) had an unexpected loss to Allan Gattas, the lowest rated in the tourney. Gattas is a non-titled player and so far only has this point in the tourney.

Vescovi holds 4.5 points and needs a miracle in the remaining four rounds to win the third consecutive tittle.

This Saturday is the only rest day. Eighth and ninth round will be played this Sunday at 10 AM and 7 PM local time (GMT + 3) and the games can be followed at www.ixc.com.br.
