Ponomariov and Mamedyarov win
Essent Crown group started today with two decisive games. In the top match encounter GM Mamedyarov won against the local hero GM Loek Van Wely. Mamedyarov applied pressure from the very beginning and Van Wely was in constant danger of losing b or d pawns. The flying dutchman was hanging on until move 35, where in extreme time trouble, for both players, he could not find the equalizing 36. Nf4. Smeets did not have any problems against the well performing Robert Ris. GM Nijboer and GM Gofshtein drew their games with IM Smerdon and GM Peng. Thus top of the table are GM Werle and IM Simutowe with full 3,0/3. Tomorrow they will meet in a direct game.
