17th Fajr International and 7th Caspian Cup

Two consecutive open tournaments in Iran

The 17th Fajr International Open Tournament was held on 3-9th February in Kish Island, Iran. The 9-round swiss event with time control of 90 min + 30 sec increment was $25.000 USD worth. Local players IM Homayoon Toufighi and FM Hamed Moosavian have collected 7.5 points each to surpass a bulk of strong Grandmasters and share the first place with Belgian GM Vadim Malakhatko.

Already on the next day, another open tournament launched in Rasht under the auspices of the Gilan Chess Association. The 7th International Caspian Cup will also be a 9-round event and it concludes on 16th February. Three games have been played, and Azeri GM Mirzoev Azer 2564 is in sole lead with the perfect score. GM Dzhumaev Marat UZB 2529, IM Allahverdiev Anar AZE 2434, IM Toufighi Homayoon IRI 2451, IM Shalamberidze Akaki GEO 2389 and IM Morchiashvili Bachana GEO 2412 are sharing 2-6th with 2,5 each.
