Gausdal round 8

Magnus Carlsen half a point ahead

Carlsen thinking

Magnus Carlsen

Magnus Carlsen keeps the half point lead heading into the last round
of the 2007 Gausdal Classics. Today he drew IM Irina Krush with the
Black in a Saemish Nimzo Indian defence. Maybe he would have picked
different opening if he knew how many times Irina practiced this line
in WCN Banters against the leading Nimzo expert GM Boris Gulko.

Carlsen’s main contender for the title, GM Michal Krasenkov, was held to a draw by GM Kaido Kulaots. Carlsen and Krasenkov will decide the tournament winner in a direct last
round duel.

GM Eduardas Rozentalis won against IM Gawain Jones after
constant positional pressure that started very early with 8. a5. GM Kjetil Lie
handled opening complications very well, which earned him a piece and win
against GM Alexei Dreev. GM Lajos Portisch had an easy task with White
pieces against Eric Moskow.
