KL Open Chess Championship

Kuala Lumpur from 15-21 December 2008

The Kuala Lumpur Chess Association (KLCA) is pleased to announce the KL Open Chess Championship with sponsorship from Masterskill University College of Heath Sciences.

Managed by Intchess Malaysia, this event will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 15-21 December 2008. There will be three categories – Open, Challengers, and Visually Impaired (Blind) and there will also be a blitz tournament on the rest day and also a special simultaneous exhibition in aid of charity.

A total of 137 players are taking part – 70 in the Open and 63 in the Challengers which has incorporated the special event for the visually handicapped.

With 8 International Grandmasters, 9 International Masters or 2400+ rated players, 4 FIDE Masters, 1 Women Grandmaster and 2 Women International Masters, and with 60 of the 70 players with FIDE ratings, the KL Open is turning out to be one of the strongest events ever held in Malaysia!

GM Anton Fillipov of Uzbekistan, GM Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia, Mark Paragua and GM Bong Villamayor of the Philippines, GM Dao Thien Hai and GM Nguyen Anh Dung from Vietnam, GM Magesh Chandra Panchanathan of India, and GM Zaw Win Lay of Myanmar.

IM Saidikin Irwanto, IM Tirto, IM Salor Sitanggang, FM Khairul Anam and FM Sebastian Simanjuntak of Indonesia, IM Julio Sadorra and Luis Chiong of Philippines, Yang Kaiqi and IM Wang Rui of China, FM Akshat Khamparia, IM Chandrasekhar Gokhale, WGM Aartie Ramaswamy, WIM Priya Ramachandran Panneer and WIM Sai Meera of India.

This has created enormous buzz locally especially with 11 countries represented!
