Strongest edition of the LGA Premium Chess Cup ever

3-6th September in Nürnberg, Germany

The sixth edition of the Premium Chess Cup started this Thursday in Nürnberg and 182 participants will compete until Sunday for a price fund of 11.000 Euro. With 67 titleholders – 24 GM’s, 20 IM’s, 22 FM’s, 1 WGM – it is the strongest edition ever. The top seeded players are Grandmasters Jonny Hector (Sweden), Valentin Iotov (Bulgaria), Klaus Bischoff and Thomas Luther (both Germany).

In the first round there were some surprises. The young German players David Baramidze and Falko Bindrich couldn’t overcome the resistance of their much lower rated opponents and had to draw their games. But the biggest surprise came on board 23, where the experienced Grandmaster Lev Gutman lost against the local player Alexander Steinmüller.

The top eight boards are covered live in the Internet and the tournament website provides daily on the spot information in German language.
