Dmitry Kokarev maintaining lead, Alexey Dreev and Alexandr Fier sharing second

The third edition of the Mumbai Mayor’s Cup chess tournament started on 2nd June and continues over eleven rounds of Swiss system until 10th June. The event, which is being organised by Venus Chess Academy and conducted by the Bombay Chess Association, is taking place at the Goregaon Sports Club.

Action packed round nine saw three victories for white pieces on top boards and gave us better insight on who might be the eventual winner of the tournament. GM Dmitry Kokarev maintains a half-point advantage after another victory, while top-seed Alexey Dreev and Brazilian star Alexandr Fier are sharing the second place with 7.5 points each. Behind them is a group of seven Grandmasters tied on 4th, all of whom will be seeking an opportunity to attack the top positions.
