14th Battle of Senta 1697

IM Sergey Pavlov from Ukraine wins the main tournament

The 14th Battle of Senta 1697 chess tournament was held on 17-24th July in Senta, Serbia. The tournament was composed of three competitions, Main “A” FIDE event, extremely popular “B” FIDE event, and Blitz event.

Ukrainian IM Sergey Pavlov won the main tournament by collecting 7.5 points, half a point ahead of his compatriot GM Mikhail Simantsev. Pavlov earlier shared second place in Paracin Open. Top seed GM Dmitry Kryavkin (RUS 2603) and FM Momcilo Dragovic shared the third place, while best woman was WIM Elena Tomilova. 56 players from 11 countries took participation.

B tournament saw a fantastic turnout of 103 people taking participation. Ivan Sedlak and Brian Dinter shared the first place with 7.5 points each. Blitz tournament was played on 20th July, Jovan Radlovacki from Pancevo grabbed the first place ahead of GM Nikola Sedlak.

Senta (Hungarian: Zenta) is center of the municipality with the same name in the north-east Serbia, near borders with Hungary and Romania. The town lies on the bank of the Tisa River. The first written documents about Senta date from 1216. It had become a market-town in 1506. Today Senta is an educational and cultural center.
