Smederevski SK claims Serbian First League

21st to 31st August in spa Vrnjačka Banja

Smederevski SK won the 2010 Serbian First League after the dramatic last round in which top four teams were paired one against another. Smederevo and Vodovod started their match from the shared first place and held the destiny in their own hand. But the defending champion Sveti Nikolaj and 2007 champion Beograd Argobanka also had hopes for the title if the main match ends with a tie.

Vodovod’s dreams were dispersed after Smederevo quickly grabbed a decisive 3.5-0.5 lead. One of the top scorers on the second board, GM Mihajlo Stojanovic, was defeated after five consecutive wins, and the best player of the entire league, Smederevo captain GM Danilo Milanovic, added another victory for a total of 9.5 points from 11 rounds. In the end, Vodovod was demolished by 1-5 and dropped down to third place.

Beograd signed a 4-2 victory against Sveti Nikolaj from Valjevo and jumped ahead to the second place. Spartak Subotica was saved from relegation after a tight 3.5-2.5 win against Sloga Amiga, in which Hungarian star Richard Rapport was the only to take a full point. Instead of Spartak, Stara Pazova goes to the second division.

The League was played from 21st to 31st August in spa Vrnjačka Banja.
