GM Aleksandar Kovacevic Winner in Pula

360 players, 18th to 25th June at the Hotel Histria in Pula, Croatia

The 25th International Open Tournament Pula 2011 was held from 18th to 25th June at the Hotel Histria in Pula, Croatia. The organizers, Croatian Chess Federation and Chess Club “Pula”, have provided 11.000 EUR for the prize fund.

This popular tournament has attracted a large number of players, with 360 people taking participation in the 9-round event. Last year winner was GM Robert Zelcic.

GM Aleksandar Kovacevic started furiously by scoring six wins in the first six rounds. Then he slowed the pace and signed three draws which was still good enough for the shared first place, together with Grandmasters Kuljasevic, Antal and D.Popovic.

Kovacevic had the highest tiebreak and is declared the winner.
