Susanto Megaranto, Mark Paragua and Li Ruofan qualify for World Cup

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines organized the Zone 3.3 Championships 2011 for Open and Women from 23 to 31 May 2011 in Tagaytay City, Philippines. Both events were played over nine rounds of Swiss system.

Indonesian GM Susanto Megaranto took a clear first place in the Open section with 7.0 points and qualified for the World Cup 2011 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Local crowd is delighted with the result of GM Mark Paragua who edged the opposition on best tiebreak and won the second ticket for the World Cup.

FM Emmanuel Garcia earned an IM norm.

In the Women tournament top-seeded IM Li Ruofan from Singapore and WGM Hoang Thi Bao Tram from Vietnam are joint winners with 6.5 points each, but Ruofan qualifies for the Women’s World Cup thanks to the better additional criteria.
