Caruana and Vallejo leading in Pamplona

8-player round robin on 22-29th December

The 18th Torneo Internacional Ciudad de Pamplona launched on Monday, 22nd December, as a 16th category eight-player round robin event. Three rounds have already been played and tomorrow, on Christmas, is a rest day.

Francisco Vallejo Pons started furiously, winning the first two rounds, but then succumbed to the 2008 Italian champion Fabiano Caruana. The two are now sharing the first place with 2.0 points each. Vallejo Pons has just returned from China where he helped Veselin Topalov’s preparation during the Pearl Spring tournament.
