The Reykjavik Open 2009, organized by Icelandic Chess Federation and Reykjavik Chess Academy, in which 110 players took participation, finished yesterday with a four-way tie on the first place. The local chess fans are pleased that GM Steingrimsson Hedinn and GM Stefansson Hannes are among the top finishers, together with GM Kryvoruchko Yuriy and GM Marin Mihail.

The top-seeded GM Areshchenko Alexander could not make more than a draw against Canadian IM Roussel-Roozmon Thomas in the final round, and both of them have completed the tournament with 6,5 points, sharing 5-10th place. On the same position is IM Popovic Milos, rated 2400 FIDE, who made a stunt in the final two rounds by beating prominent Grandmasters Leon Hoyos and Hillarp Persson.
