Brave FM Gudmundur Kjartansson defeated in round 5, GMs Markos and Hebden leading

A degree of normality returned to the Scottish Chess Championship on Wednesday after the large number of upsets in the last few rounds. Top board saw Slovakian GM Jan Markos end the spectacular run of the Icelandic FM Gudmundur Kjartansson and Markos now shares joint lead with English GM Mark Hebden. Top Scottish player Jonathan Rowson also won to move within half a point of the leaders. Watch out for today’s board 3 game FM Kjartansson versus GM Arakhamia-Grant. Both players are famed for their attacking and exciting chess – expect fireworks!
