Scottish Chess Championship 2009 – Round 6

English Grandmaster Mark Hebden taking sole lead

News Flash: Scottish Chess Championship led by an Englishman! Round 6 saw English Grandmaster Mark Hebden defeat top seed and home favourite Jonathan Rowson in a see-saw game where the Scottish master slipped up in time trouble. This result (and the fact that joint leader GM Markos lost on board 1) catapults GM Hebden into the sole lead with 5.5/6 and an astonishing tournament rating performance of 2760. Both Indian players, Prasad and Panchanathan are only half a point behind and a further half point back are the chasing pack which includes three Scottish Grandmasters and two norm-seeking Scottish amateurs, FM Gourlay and Martin Mitchell.

The Open Championship is playing from 2pm-8pm every day from Saturday July 11th – Sunday July 19th inclusive. For more information, live games, photos, and round by round reports please visit the Championship website
