Serbia Chess Championship – Round 1

Five wins for White and only two draws

The 2009 Serbian Chess Championship started on Thursday and already in the first round it was clear that most of the players arrived to Kragujevac eager to fight for the title. The defending champion Ivan Ivanisevic won with White against his team-mate from VSK Sveti Nikolaj, Branko Damljanovic. Veteran GM Dusan Rajkovic played a beautiful attacking game against his former student and 2007 Serbian champion Milos Perunovic.

Boban Bogosavljevic snatched the White b2-pawn as early as on move six, but his Queen remained sidelined for the rest of the game, until Igor Miladinovic finally surounded her on 20th move. Junior champion Ivan Sarenac found a cute combination with temporary sacrifice to earn a draw from GM Dejan Antic.
