Serbia Chess Championship 2010 – Round One

Junior champion Petar Krstic beats GM Miodrag Savic

Chess club “Radnicki” and City of Kragujevac are organizing the 2010 Serbia Chess Championship for men, which will be held from 18th April to 1st May in Hotel “Sumarice”, Kragujevac. 14 players will compete in the round-robin tournament for the title of the national champion and 4000 EUR prize fund.

The 2008 and 2009 champion GM Ivan Ivanisevic will not be defending the crown, and other high rated players, like GM Bojan Vuckovic, GM Robert Markus and GM Mihajlo Stojanovic, have canceled participation.

Serbian junior champion Petar Krstic stunned the experienced GM Miodrag R Savic and scored a valuable victory with black pieces. Krstic displayed great skill and patience in the sensitive Rook endgame. GM Nikola Sedlak won against IM Branko Tadic who blundered in weaker position, while GM Boban Bogosavljevic earned a full point after the captain of the national team, GM Branko Damljanovic, hung a Rook in the complicated position.
