2008 SPICE Cup – Round Seven

September 19-28 in Lubbock, USA

German GM Leonid Kritz beat the then-leading Victor Mikhalevski in the 7th round of 2008 SPICE Cup to replace him on the first place tie. He still might have been left half a point short from the top, had Varuzhan Akobian found the winning move against Julio Becerra, as chief organizer Susan Polgar pointed on her blog.

On the bottom end of the crosstable, Kamil Miton and last-year winner Eugene Perelshteyn signed first wins, while Hannes Stefansson is still knocked on the last place. 10-time Iceland champion is probably experiencing fatigue after demanding domestic championship and overseas flight.

Susan Polgar also informs that Texas Tech and SPICE are already launching preparation for the 2009 tournament. Thus far, the (still unknown) winner of the current event and Philippines star Wesley So are granted with invitation.
